Why is the Trauma Center and Program moving to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC)?

Garry Scheib
Executive Director, HUP
CEO, UPHS
First of all this is a very exciting time for Penn Medicine. The relocation of the Trauma Center to Penn Presbyterian is the cornerstone of a larger strategy to invest in campus infrastructure expansions at each hospital to optimize inpatient capacity across Penn Medicine. This is a transition that has been studied for almost a decade and as early as 2003, Dr. Bill Schwab and I thought a mode like this had great potential for benefits to our health system, Penn Presbyterian and our Greater Philadelphia community. We resurfaced the concept in 2011 and felt it afforded us an even greater opportunity now.
